Australian Masters Squash Association Championships EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Australian Masters Squash Association (AMSA) has some exciting news to share!
Below is an e-mail from President of AMSA - Peter Wright OAM - detailing exciting changes to the Australian Masters Squash Championships:
Dear Masters Squash Player
The Australian Masters Squash Association (AMSA) has some exciting news to share!
Earlier this year, we reached out to all Masters players in Australia through a survey to get your thoughts on the timing and format of the Australian Masters Championships. We are thrilled to report that we received 475 responses from players across the nation, with over 30% coming from our younger players under 54 years old. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to provide your valuable feedback!
Your responses highlighted some challenges faced by our younger players, such as time off work, family commitments, and the location of the Championships. But the good news is that across all age groups, there was a strong willingness to embrace changes that could benefit everyone.
As a result, we are excited to announce some positive changes to the Australian Masters Championships! The Individual Championships will now be a 3-day event, running from Friday to Sunday, with Monday as a rest day. The Teams Event will follow from Tuesday to Saturday of the next week.
We will also continue to offer an Open Event in each 5-year age group by gender for the Individual Championships, while all other events will be organised by gender and divided into divisions based on each individual’s AMSA ranking. We believe these changes will lead to closer and more exciting matchups in the Individual Events.
We are delighted to let you know that on 14 August 2024, all States and Territories unanimously endorsed these changes. These changes will officially take effect at the 2025 Championships in Perth, WA!
Warm regards
Peter Wright OAM
President
